About our Sussex Wildflower Honey

Single source, unpasteurised wildflower honey from a small Sussex apiary. 340g Jar

We get our honey from happy, healthy bees looked after by Lia Markwick a.k.a The Sussex Bee.

Having tended to bees since childhood, Lia learned the art of beekeeping from her father, who has cared for honeybees for over fifty years – and still does so to this day. Wishing to reignite fond beekeeping memories of her past, Lia established two colonies of her own in 2014 and now manages over 20 hives. Lia’s traditional wooden beehives are located in ancient woodland, in the village of Ansty, overlooking two naturally seeded wildflower fields. The diversity of this flora is reflected in the flavour of The Sussex Bee honey. Each hand poured batch is unique in taste, showcasing seasonal variations of the Sussex countryside.

There’s no factory-farm scale operations here and whilst manuka honey is widely-regarded for its medicinal effects, you’ll be pleased to read that studies have shown it’s not the only kind to be effective at killing pathogens. No wonder then that traditional remedies have long used honey to heal wounds and hurry along recovery from colds, and as this honey is raw it retains all its natural enzymes, antioxidants and antibacterial properties. These properties will diminish with cooking so we suggest only gently heating by adding it to dishes at the last minute or reserving for dressings, drinks and drizzling on yoghurt.
