Almonds

Nuts in shells, almonds particularly, are more of a 'snacktivity’ than on-the-go energy boost or quick grab ingredient. They require patience and a reliable nut cracker, improvised implement or some real squirrel like innovation. While a bag of ready shelled ones, or a jar of roasted, salted, almond butter might save time and effort, we think, especially in the festive season, there’s something to be said for slowing down, sitting down by the fire and enjoying these mindfully. In a world of ultra-processed convenience which disconnects us from where what we eat comes from, it’s nice to be reminded of how foods are found in nature. Indeed, it takes takes seven to eight months for almonds to mature so no wonder the trees don’t make it easy to scoff them immediately!
