Pomegranate

Pomegranate is what Hades finally managed to tempt Persephone with when he kidnapped her.
As the story goes, if she ate anything at all whilst trapped in the underworld, she would have to stay there forever and above ground it would be permanently winter. Rather than let the six seeds she couldn’t resist go, Hades demanded her company for six months, releasing her for the other six and thus explaining the dark, cold half of the year.

Cut yours in half and bash it on the back to release its little jewels, which can be a delicate pink or dramatic ruby, then use them to decorate tagines and grainy salads or freeze them and add to drinks.
