Barcombe Cherry Tomatoes

We plant two batches of tomatoes successionally, so we can provide you with an unwavering supply for as long as British summertime allows. We doubt you’ll need any guidance whatsoever on how to use them: just enjoy! (Although you might want to think about drying or freezing some as a gift to your future colder, less sun-kissed self…)

In 2023, first to the post (or should that be first to our mouths?) will be the unbeatably sweet and, as the name suggests, sunset coloured Sungolds, along with a red mini grape tomato we’re putting through its paces and two red cherry tomatoes: Sakura (much trusted amongst organic growers) and the new-to-us Cheramy which we’re looking forward to comparing, always being on a quest for the best! 

Next up will be Datterinis (which is Italian for ‘small date’), a smokey flavoured mini-plum we loved in 2022 and two other red cherries: Bartelly which stood out amongst multiple varieties in our trials and Ciliegia, which is a traditional old Italian cherry tomato described as “the sweetest and most aromatic of all”!

To keep the punnets interesting there will also be the orange Santiam sunrise, which is a relative of the beloved Sungold cleverly developed to be ‘open pollinated' (which means we could save their seeds!) and Mango Lassi a new breed with a taste apparently reminiscent of, you guessed it, mango- Phoebe just couldn’t resist.

Full sized tomatoes take longer to ripen so we don’t tend to choose these, but reading the frankly rave reviews for Ruthje, which the catalogues wax lyrical about, we’re excited to see for ourselves whether they deserve the capitalised description of EXCEPTIONAL.
