Organic Cherry Tomatoes
If knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit, wisdom is knowing not to put them in a fruit salad.
So the saying goes, and we’re not recommending chucking them in a desert like trifle, but with these sweet cherry tomatoes the distinction is certainly blurred. Without heating we can only grow our own tomatoes from June to September.
For the rest of the year, rather than turning to UK suppliers who do replace sunshine artificially, it is, perhaps surprisingly, far more efficient to import them, via lorry, from Spain. Once you’ve had a punnet of Barcombe ripened ones, peak season, nothing else will compare, but when slow-roasted these are the next best thing, in terms of sustainability, as well as flavour.
