Rocket

Rocket has been present in the English salad bowl since Elizabethan times and is one of the mainstays of our winter mix. Its balance of sweet and pepperiness means we wish we could grow it all year round, but with warmer weather it becomes a perforated testament to feasting flea-beetle, which also love it and can only be deterred up to a point! Still, seasonal eating means you appreciate things whilst they’re around and as it’s so popular we also offer it as a separate product, ready for rocket and walnut pesto, for topping pizzas and for innumerable salad variations, drizzled with a musky balsamic dressing.

Once believed to be such a potent aphrodisiac that it was actually banned in monastery gardens, we haven’t had any complaints concerning this as of yet…
