Organic Jersey Royals New Potatoes
New, early or baby spuds are not a particular variety, but any kind dug up before reaching maturity. Their size makes them totally inappropriate for a jacket potato, unless you are a). an elf, or b). game for a very fiddly time filling half a dozen or so. However, this is their only downfall. Their thin, scuffled up skins conceal such sweet, perfectly waxy flesh (so buttery it hardly needs butter!) that they are a seasonal treat we look forward to every year. Far from merely fulfilling the humdrum carbohydrate quota of a meal they are something special, whether in a mayonnaisey salad, crushed with herbs or roasted whole with lots of rosemary. Plus the teeny tiny ones are indisputably cute (and handy to chuck straight into a curry). We always sell out very quickly!
