Organic Long Red Florence Onions
We love onions! Raw or cooked, their zippy flavour means they’d be an absolute must on our desert island vegetable list. As well as spring onions and bunching onions, we grow a third type which deserves differentiation; Long Red Florence. This is an heirloom variety from Tuscany normally harvested when mature in early autumn but that we like to pull up when they’re still young, with nice green tops. They’re elongated and shallot-like in shape with purple-red skin explaining one of their other names of ‘Italian Torpedo’. Maybe it’s just us imagining these beauties being finely minced in hundreds of years’ worth of Italian cooking but we think they’re a cut above the rest.
