As dawn warms the mist across the fields and the smell of wood smoke lingers in the air, there’s a unmistakable magic to mid-winter. Whether you’re celebrating with all the trimmings or hibernating to avoid the fuss, we hope you can savour the season’s bounty this Christmas - knowing that every bite supports a healthier planet and a more connected community.

December is always a very productive month on the farm - for harvesting, planning and tending to our current crop beds. We have tonnes of hardy winter vegetables at the moment - all the leafy greens, including kales, chard, spinach and spring greens, are coming thick and fast. Our bunched beets are still sitting proudly above the soil, waiting to be plucked, and the salad is thriving, protected in our poly tunnels. We’re making our way through the leeks but still have plenty for the colder months ahead and the cabbages wait patiently, offering us an impressively steady crop. The sprouts are bulking up nicely - ours have taken a little longer this year due to the dry summer, but they’re ready just in time for Christmas! We’ve also a later variety of sprouts so we should have a good harvest well into the New Year too.

Christmas feasting is wonderful but waste is always a worry. So much work and effort goes into growing veg, we at the farm want to ensure you get the most out everything you order - so that means celebrating the leftovers! So, instead of focusing on one vegetable, this seasonal focus is all about those bits of winter veg still languishing in your fridge after the big day.
It’s always exciting to plan our crops for next year; we’ve completed our seed order for 2026 and all looking forward to exploring new varieties, as well as continuing with those we’ve tried and tested. We’re also keen to introduce more flowers into our crop rotation. They were a huge hit at our September open day and to see and hear the bees buzzing around the farm was a season highlight. For now though, the shorter days remind us to go slow, wrap up and reflect on another successful year of growing, packing and delivering beautiful, organic vegetables.

Well, that's it for the year!
Once again we thank you for supporting your local farm; it is truly a privilege to grow food and serve our community.
Wishing you all a restful, healthy and joy filled festive break, however you celebrate. Here’s to the seasons ahead together - to roots that deepen and to many more harvests still to come.
